Awards
Each year, we recognize companies and individuals who are helping us breathe easier through an annual awards program, held in the fall. The 2009 Champions Luncheon, held at Johnson C. Smith University's Metropolitan College, recognized 14 employers and many individuals:
The Innovation Award was presented to Concorde Construction and Harris Teeter
for developing the most creative and innovative solution to implement its Clean Air Works! project.
The Champions Awards for outstanding overall employer programs were presented to three employers: RT Dooley, AXA Equitable and AT&T.
The Sustainable Award, a new awards category in 2009,was presented to AbitibiBowater, American & Efird, Duke Energy, Moore & Van Allen and Piedmont Natural Gas for successfully sustaining their Clean Air Works! programs over four years of the project.
The Executive Leader Award went to Sam Houser of Houser Transport and Rusty Harris of PSNC Energy for using their influence to help improve air quality in the region.
The Project Leader Awards went to those individuals who showed leadership, enthusiasm and creativity in the actual implementation of the project at their respective work sites. Those winners were Amy Farris of NewDominion, Emily Scofield of RT Dooley, Mariel Littrell of Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, Tim Grzesiakowski of Hewitt Associates, and Warren Cook of York Technical College.

In addition to awards, partnership with Clean Air Works! provides a variety of recognition opportunities throughout the year including media coverage, events and Success Stories on our Web site. In 2007, more than 70 media stories appeared in local, regional and national media outlets.
