Launched spring 2006, Clean Air Works! is a project of the Regional Air Quality Board, in collaboration with the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the Centralina Council of Governments, and the Catawba Regional Council of Governments.

The project engages employers in the effort to improve air quality by providing them with tools to help their employees take control of their commutes, and by assisting in retooling operations and maintenance activities to reduce emissions.

Clean Air Works! runs year round, with a focus on ozone season, May 1 to September 30. Many of the largest employers from across the eight-county nonattainment region are participating in this innovative project.
Partners are located throughout Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Union and York (SC) counties. Find out how your company or employer can get involved today.

Partners of Clean Air Works! are helping to:

  • ensure continued economic competitiveness
  • avoid federal penalties from not meeting air quality standards
  • provide a low or no cost transportation benefit to employees, and
  • educate employees about an important public health issue.

Funding for Clean Air Works! is provided through federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) funds and Mecklenburg County.
